When you’re ready to leave your comfortable rooms at the Elysium Hotel Paphos, you’ll find plenty of things to do right nearby. Why not spend start your day by exploring Paphos castle, which is a UNESCO world heritage site located in Kato Paphos at the harbor.

This stunning stone-walled castle is actually a small part of a Byzantine fort built by Ahmed Pasha in 1592 A. D. to protect the harbor. The Castle that we see today is just the remains of the western tower. You can still see the remains of the eastern tower about 200 ft away on the breakwater, which gives you some idea of the original massive scale of this once formidable fortress.

The remaining fort has two floors, with 5 rooms at the ground level. There are openings in the floor that let you look down into the prison cells below. Opposite the main entrance you’ll find the steps leading up to the roof. The steps are definitely a bit steep and narrow, but once you get to the top you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the Marina and Kato Paphos in all its glory.
